On September 2, a change to Buffer’s editor prevented customers from editing some saved drafts and scheduled posts. When an affected post was opened, its channel appeared to be unselected, so the changes could not be saved. Publishing itself was not affected.
The change was live from approximately 19:32 UTC on September 2 until 00:29 UTC on September 3, a period of about five hours.
The change made the editor mistake a post assigned to a channel for a draft without one. It also affected customers outside the small group for whom the related feature was intended. We reverted the change, then retested editing and confirmed it was working again.
Our existing checks created posts but did not reopen saved posts to edit them, so they missed this failure. We’re extending test coverage for post editing and reviewing how changes tied to feature flags are applied.
