Between January 25 and 28, posting to TikTok through Buffer was unreliable. Some posts went through fine, others failed — at the worst points, success rates dropped to around 50%. Connecting TikTok accounts was also affected on and off.
This was caused by an issue on TikTok's side. Their platform was experiencing intermittent failures, including timeouts and authentication errors. We confirmed this with TikTok support, and they told us they were working on emergency repairs.
On our end, we monitored the situation closely, retried failed posts for affected users, and added an in-app banner so people knew what was going on. Once TikTok resolved the issue on their end, things returned to normal.
Since this was entirely a third-party issue, there aren't specific code changes on our side to prevent it. Our monitoring picked it up quickly, and we kept users informed throughout.
