Issue Publishing Video Posts to Facebook Pages
Degraded performance
View the incident

On March 12, 2026, Meta's API started returning errors when apps tried to publish videos to Facebook. This wasn't specific to Buffer - other social media tools ran into the same thing. The issue was on Meta's infrastructure side.

Customer Impact

If you were publishing videos to Facebook during this window, those posts failed. About 4,700 customers were affected, with roughly 13,700 posts failing in total. Text posts and publishing to other platforms worked fine throughout.

Steps to Resolution

We spotted the pattern within hours and confirmed it was coming from Meta's API, not from our end. We flagged it to Meta through their developer community, updated our status page, and kept monitoring. Meta fixed things on their side, and by March 13 we'd confirmed everything was back to normal.

Key Learnings

One good thing that came out of this - a team member built a tool during the incident that checks platform status pages and developer forums in parallel, so we can figure out faster whether an issue is on our side or a platform's. We're looking at making this part of how we respond to incidents going forward.
